At Crux, we partnered with La Sportiva to create a pedestal for a single shoe to be displayed on retail shop floors that matched their high-end and premium branding.

Parameters
Engineering
After finalizing the design concept with La Sportiva, we moved forward with engineering for quote, prototype, and production.

drop-in top for easy assembly and graphic change-outs
access point to make magnet removal easier
magnetic graphic for easy change-out
screen-printed logos for a touch of permanent branding
sleek sides all the way down with chamfered corners to add structural integrity to a thinner gauge of sheet metal
pem studs & wing nuts for seamless look and easy assembly
Jumping into Solidworks
Using CAD was a key step in creating solutions for the given parameters. It allowed for packaging & hardware studies as well as realistic dimensions, proportions, and dieline creation for the graphic.
Prototype Quality Checks

Working closely with our production vendor, we moved forward with a prototype sample of the display. This provides an opportunity for both us and our client to confirm that all finishes, hardware, assembly tolerances, and graphics are up to spec. While CAD is a helpful tool, sometimes the computer lies!

Having a prototype also allowed us to ensure that assembly was as easy as possible for in-store employees & that our assembly instructions are accurate. After putting the pedestal together, we decided to change some of the pem stud locations for a more accessible reach.
We also noted some forming damage, which helps our vendor know what to look out for during production to guarantee consistent quality.
Last, we added a final touch of rubber bumpers on the inside of the drop-in lid. A seemingly small detail, but something that improved the overall feel and experience tremendously.

Production
Then it's off to production! As the engineer, I shared feedback and production-level CAD files for our overseas vendor. When working with premium brands, it's important to guarantee a high-quality display for consumers to interact with, as this is often their first impression of our client's product. All of which is made possible through detailed engineering, testing, and vendor coordination!
